Jack J is a musician based in Vancouver, BC but born in Sydney, Australia. He is one half of Pender Street Steppers and a member of the Mood Hut collective and record label. He released two dancefloor focused EPs, one on his own label Mood Hut and the other on DC’s Future Times label. He has also released two ambient music albums as well as a very rare 90 minute demo cassette. His debut album, ‘Opening the Door’, was released in spring 2022.

Both of his EPs were met with instant success. Notably ‘Something (On My Mind)’ was named best song of 2014 by XLR8R, and recently amongst one of the top 100 songs of the last decade by Resident Advisor, while ‘Thirstin’ was ranked second best song of 2015 by Resident Advisor. Combined, his records have sold in excess of 10,000 physical copies and his music has had more than 4 million streams.

His music is inspired by 80s funk, post-punk, AOR, synth-pop, and experimental producers like Adrian Sherwood, Arthur Russell, Thomas Leer, Compass Point All-Stars and David Sylvian.
