John Gómez

John Gómez is one of the most exciting new voices emerging in London’s music scene. Originally from Madrid, John has for a long time been admired by those in the know. Dubbed “one of London’s best kept secrets” by Boiler Room, he is trusted by essential tastemakers and has close ties to key Amsterdam institutions Rush Hour and Music From Memory. His excellent criteria as a selector has earned him the hot seat on the Rush Hour show on NTS Radio, where he has hosted guests like Hunee, Soichi Terada, Sassy J, and Volcov.

We also know John for having a good nose for incorporating musical sounds that have yet to be explored into his repertoire. Proof of this is his compilation Outro Tempo: Electronic and Contemporary Music from Brazil, 1978-1992, released in 2017 on Music From Memory. This album was hailed by Gilles Peterson as the compilation of the year and featured highly in many end of year lists, including Wire, Resident Advisor, FACT, Vinyl Factory, and Phonica.

John is not, however, just a digger or Brazilian specialist, he is a versatile DJ whose collection enables him to pack a bag that is always dance-ready and, should it need to be, can be traceable to a particular period, place, or style. This has secured him invitations to play around the globe and at parties as diverse as Dekmantel Festival, Rhythm Section, or Sofrito. However, John feels very much connected to London as a DJ and for the past three years he has also run Tangent with esteemed DJ and digger Nick the Record. Tangent is one of the city’s most joyous celebrations of after-hours dancing, a unique place to journey into the deepest corners of disco, afro, and house.
